Art Criticism

Art Criticism: Looking at Art

The ability to Describe, analyze, interpret, judge and evaluate a work of art is known as the critiquing process. This process can be just as important in art education as creating a work of art.
7the grade Fegely students spent a week learning the process of critiquing artwork.
To complete the process the students used the handouts below.

Students worked in small groups to complete each step.

Each group was given a Japaneese print to critique. This went along with our Unit on Japan.
Later in the week the students applied their knowledge to conduct a peer critique.

Texture Dragons

Texture Dragons

These 6th grade dragons were an easy and fun three day project! All students finished and were sucessful creating their work of art!

The students began the project drawing a dragon. The students used their imagination to come up with their unique dragon design.
Next the student used texture plates and crayons to fill the dragon with different textures. I required the students to have a minimum of four different textures inside of the dragon.
The students then outlines the dragon in sharpie and cut the dragon out.
The finished project resulted in the dragon glued onto colored construction paper as seen below.
